Why do we use a different voice to talk to babies and dogs?

No one ever told me to change my voice when I talk to an infant or a dog, but I do it, and it seems to work. And I’m not the only one who does it.

The best way to describe the voice I use to talk to little kids or puppies is a cross between Marvin The Martian and Bart Simpson.

Dogs

He came to us when he was between 5-7 years old.

We’ll never know exactly how old he is because the people who drove to the dead end road in front of our home, removed his collar, dumped him out, and drove away, didn’t leave a note.

Cats Are Smarter Than Dogs

You can name a cat whatever you’d like, but they all think their name is “Here, Kitty, Kitty, Kitty”.

Cat owners and dog owners are equally passionate about their chosen pet, but since I own one of each, I feel qualified to make the observation that cats are smarter than dogs.

Oh, sure, you can train a dog to answer to their given name, catch a Frisbee, fetch a paper, slippers and other such things, but cats have managed to train people.
